Then he began to paint with charcoal and chalk. Layers and layers of painting with charcoal. Highlights with chalk. Some of the layers were smeared with the finger or a smudge tool. Some parts were left as is. The artist used to work for the Art Foundation at Virginia Commonwealth University from 1990 to 1991. He remembered that in some classes the instructors would advise deliberate strokes and confident strokes. He's staring offset from the corner of the the apartment. He's avoiding the window. He acknowledges that the window is there but there is a fixture in the middle of the adjacent wall that is dominating the installation. The fixture which resembles a box with simple legs could be a television. We don't know what it is.
